14/02/2017 8 PM Tailteann Cup Round 2 / Quarter Final: Drumconrath V St Vincent’s Ardcath
St. Vincent’s GFC fielded a strong team for this home quarter final game with Drumconrath and in so doing produced a positive display in a lively contest which was played in fair conditions for the time of year. The game kicked off shortly after 8pm in Masterson Park, Ardcath.
Drumconrath got off to a quicker start but the first half remained a relatively tight encounter with St. Vincent’s scoring two goals and four points to Drumconrath’s eight points. Tommy Field and Richie O’Sullivan scored a goal each resulting in the difference between the sides at half time.
St. Vincent’s had a two point advantage going into the second half with the score standing at 2-4 to 0-8 but it was Drumconrath who were first of the mark with two points from play in the first seven minutes. St. Vincent’s did not get off the mark until the fifteenth minute with Robbie Lynch getting a point from play. Shortly after Drumconrath scored a point followed by a goal which was a turning point in the game. St. Vincent’s finished the game with two additional points but it was not enough to secure the win. On the night, St. Vincent’s recorded ten wides compared to four from Drumconrath which really made a difference to the final score. Drumconrath were winners and now progress to the next round in the Tailteann Cup competition.
