St Vincent’s Ardcath v St Ultan’s:
On what was a mild yet damp February morning St. Vincent’s GFC travelled to St Ultans in Sean Newman Park, Oldtown near Kells. This was their first division 3 league game of the season and both teams were eager to get started.
It was the home team who got of the mark in the second minute with a point from a free. St. Vincent’s got their first score in the tenth minute with a well taken point from Declan O Sullivan. Vincents kept the pressure on throughout the first half and saw a lot of the ball which resulted in one goal and three points coming from Shane O Brien, Richie O Sullivan, Robbie Lynch and Bob Tallon.
St Vincent’s started the second half leading 1- 4 to 0-3 and it looked as they might kick on as they went on an immediate offensive but the resulting effort was wide. St. Ultans were awarded a penalty in the fourth minute and scored a point. This was followed by a goal and a point without reply from St. Vincent’s. In the seventeenth minute Paddy Arnold scored a point from play but St Ultans began to shine and scored a further five points from play over the next fifteen minutes. Vincent’s kept pressing with two points scored from play but it wasn’t enough on this occasion to catch the home team who won the game by three points.
